What We Fund
Since its establishment in 2008, the Foundation has served an important role in supporting the Goodnow Library's focus on education, literacy, and providing a gathering place where everyone is welcome. The Foundation provides funding for programs, refurbishments, upgrades, and other needs that are not covered by the town, amounting to 10–20% of the Library’s non-salary budget each year, on average. The Foundation has successfully completed five capital campaigns.

The Foundation has funded key enhancements to the Library including:
-
Refurbishment of the Children’s Room
-
Complete overhaul of the Library’s technology offerings, including state-of-the-art networked public access terminals, iPads, iMacs, Chromebooks, a wireless printer, Apple TV; and STEAM equipment throughout the Library
-
Creation of the first floor Community Gathering Space including a lobby HD-TV bulletin board, comfortable chairs for gathering, and a coffee station
-
“Reimagining the Second Floor Project” that includes the creation of the Sara Sherman NOW Lab, the new Teen Area, a modern Technology Center, and the refurbishment of the Historical Octagon
-
Renovations to the Library’s beautiful Historical Room (in 2020 the Library was awarded a $150,000 grant from the Community Preservation Committee for the renovation, and the Foundation raised an additional $67,000 to complete the project; work is nearly finished)
The funds provided by the Foundation to these projects total more than $650,000 to date.
